StarLock Cushion Discontinuation: Effective Immediately

We would like to inform you that, due to ongoing supplier challenges which have not been resolved despite significant efforts from our global purchasing team, we are ceasing distribution of Starlock with immediate effect.

This decision has been taken due to continued disruption from the supplier and their supply chain which has result in extended lead times of 6–10 weeks. We believe these delays are not acceptable, particularly given the needs of high-risk clients, and therefore we have take the decision to cease distribution.

All existing orders currently in the system will be fulfilled as planned.

Spare parts will remain available while current stock lasts. Once stock is depleted, customers are advised to source spare parts directly from ETAC.

As well as the supplier short falls the Introduction of the Ride Java cushion has also played part in our decision to cease distribution.

Introducing the Ride Java Cushion

Traditionally, air cushions have been the only option for clients requiring the highest level of skin protection.

The Ride Design Java Cushion was developed to deliver that same exceptional skin protection while addressing key limitations of traditional air cushions, as identified through customer feedback:

• Client instability

• Maintenance challenges

• Heat and moisture build-up

The Ride Java Cushion is engineered to deliver a high level of skin protection—traditionally associated with air cushions—particularly in high-risk areas such as the ischial tuberosities, sacrum, and coccyx.

At the same time, it provides enhanced client stability, comparable to solutions such as the JAY Balance, while offering the low maintenance benefits typically associated with traditional foam cushions.

Clinically Proven Very high skin protection

The Ride Java Cushion is engineered to deliver exceptional skin protection by redistributing pressure and effectively reducing load and shear forces from high-risk areas, including the ischial tuberosities, sacrum, and coccyx, to regions better able to tolerate load, such as the thighs and rear of the pelvis (cantals).

This innovative design provides maximum protection for bony prominences and areas of compromised skin. The Ride Java Cushion has been independently tested by multiple universities in side-by-side comparisons, demonstrating its ability to manage deep tissue deformation and reduce long- term skin risk. Studies show that it achieves pressure relief comparable to advanced air cushions and, in some cases, has been successfully used with clients with stage III pressure injuries, supporting healing while in use.

For further information and to review these studies, please refer to the Ride Java product page under Documentation – Other.

Unseen Stability with very high skin protection

The Ride Java Cushion not only provides exceptional pressure relief but also delivers outstanding postural support—historically unseen at this level of skin protection.

Its innovative off-load design, combined with a firm closed-cell foam base, allows safe loading of lower-risk areas such as the rear of the pelvis (cantals) and femurs. These areas form a stable foundation, ensuring high levels of client stability and making daily activities more efficient than on a traditional air cushion.

Independent research demonstrates the Ride Java’s ability to improve lateral reach. Compared to a properly inflated air cushion, subjects showed significant increases in both right and left lateral reach.* With the Ride Java, postural management and ease of movement are no longer compromised for skin protection.

Intuitive & Simple Maintenance

The Ride Java Cushion combines the skin protection benefits typically associated with air cushions with the low-maintenance convenience of foam. There is no need for daily adjustments or servicing, reducing caregiver burden and minimising the risk of incorrect air levels comp romising support. This “set-and-forget” design ensures consistent performance while maintaining the highest level of skin protection.

Effective Microclimate Management

Heat and moisture build-up are common contributors to skin breakdown, yet the Ride Java’s vented base, contoured foam, and breathable spacer mesh cover work together to promote airflow and keep the seating interface cool and dry. This effective microclimate management supports skin integrity and client comfort, even during extended periods of sitting. While we are disappointed that we have not been able to reach a solution with the supplier of the StarLock Cushion to ensure a consistent and stable supply, we are confident that the introduction of the Ride Java Cushion provides a suitable and superior alternative. The Ride Java combines exceptional, clinically proven skin protection with enhanced stability, low maintenance, and effective microclimate management, offering a complete solution for high-risk clients.
