As part of our continuous improvement initiatives, we’re introducing a steering spring assembly as standard on all Extreme X8 powerchairs without a steering lock.
The spring assists in stabilising the X8’s steering, particularly noticeable when driving on flat terrain and at lower speeds. The spring also helps to reduce wheel deflection, providing a smoother, more predictable driving experience in both forward and reverse.
For users wanting maximum steering control in more challenging environments, our powered steering lock remains a premium option, ensuring full mechanical steering isolation when reversing, travelling over obstacles or on rough terrain.

Which wheelchair models are affected?
The Steering Spring has been designed for Extreme X8 powerchairs. All new X8s will be fitted with the Steering Spring when the steering lock has not been fitted, at no additional cost. It cannot be fitted together with a steering lock.
The Steering Spring can be retrofitted to Extreme X8 models built from 2014 onwards that are not equipped with a powered steering lock. Refer to X8 Steering Spring Kit (MM-09070).
What do you need to do?
Nothing. The Steering Spring will be a standard inclusion on all new Extreme X8 powerchairs if the steering lock has not been selected.
