At Sunrise Medical we are committed to the continuous development of our products based on user feedback and customer experience.
Reason for Change
From listening to market feedback, we understand that some customers were experiencing issues using the ovalised versions of our unique one-touch clamps. This could lead to the clamps occasionally scratching the frame when being mounted and adjusted, as well as the clamp gradually slipping overtime, potentially compromising the ground clearance of the castors.
Design Update
The reason for these issues was that the previous design of the clamp did not correctly fir the shape of an oval frame, meaning there was uneven surface area contact between the clamp and the frame. Reducing friction forces and marking the frame at specific pressure points:

The new design has extra shaping on its internal diameter, allowing it to better clamp around an ovalised frame tube, providing a stronger and more durable connection, whilst the weight is more evenly spread.
Customer Benefits
These new design clamps will have two benefits for the user:
• A more solid and durable clamping force, making it easier to dock and undock onto the wheelchair as well as removing the issue of the clamp slipping over time.
• No more scratching of the wheelchair frame due to an uneven connection

Serial Production
StreetJet’s ordered with an oval clamp since the 1st January 2024 will have the new design fit as standard.
Spare Parts and Retrofit
The spare part number of the oval clamp has not been updated, as this has been introduced as a running change. Any spare parts ordered since the 1st January 2024 will also be the new design as standard.

If you are upgrading a client’s chair, or you are ordering a replacement part for any other reason, we advise ordering both and left and a right clamp so ensure they match.
