TB UK063 Improvement to J3 Backrest Range

Subject of Bulletin:

In an ongoing effort to improve the design, functionality and performance of our JAY J3 backrest range, a further series of improvements have been introduced on the mounting hardware, comfort curve on Low Thoracic height shells and accessory bag.  It also includes accessory discontinuations from some J3 options. 

Feature: New Compact Mounting hardware

Re-designed to meet the needs of active users:

Benefit:
 

  • 25% lighter than the current 2-point JAY J3 quick release hardware
  • The lightest backrest mounting hardware available in the market
  • Easier to fit and adjust
  • Adjustable in width (5cm), depth (3cm), angle (+/- 22°), and height (by movement of brackets attached to shell or movement  of backposts clamps)
  • Easily fits majority of backpost tubes
  • Longer clamp bolts – prevents clamp separation when fitting to wider back post tubes (20 and 30mm long bolts are supplied as standard)
  • 136kg max user weight
  • Transit tested and approved

 
The new compact mounting brackets will be included with every new J3 backrest but also available as a spare part.

Feature: New Heavy Duty Compact Mounting Hardware 

The old 4-point mounting hardware and extended depth hardware will be discontinued
 
They will be replaced by Heavy Duty Compact hardware. The part numbers required for the alternative to the 4 point kit are J3EUHDCHRDW & J3EUHDCHRDWS. Benefits include:

Benefit:
 

  • Designed for more passive or heavier users
  • Supplied as standard on all Upper Thoracic and Shoulder High backrests
  • 20% lighter than old 4-point style but just as stable
  • Significantly less play and movement due to re-design of clamp, cone and receiver
  • Easier to fit and adjust
  • No loss of angle, depth, width and height adjustment
  • Improved styling
  • Longer clamp bolts – prevents clamp separation when fitting to wider back post tubes (20 and 30mm long bolts are supplied as standard)
  • Higher maximum user weight of 225kg
  • Transit tested and approved


Feature: New comfort bend on top edge

The top edge of all low thoracic shells ordered from this point onwards will feature a comfort bend.  

Benefit:
 

  • The rearward flared edge reduces the pressure and discomfort at the top edge when leaning back to dress, function or alter position. 

Feature: New Shell mouting plate on JAY J3 Carbon backrest 

The shell mounting plate on the JAY J3 Carbon backrests will be replaced by a smaller, lighter bracket.

Benefit:
 

  • 5% lighter compared to the current J3 Carbon quick release and fixed mounting brackets 
  • Reduced depth adjustment from 4.5cm to 2cm for a more compact, stylish look
  • Retains the key range for adjustment of width, depth, angle and rotation 


Feature: New Accessory Bag

The old style JAY J3 grey ‘Vanity Flap’ will be discontinued and replaced with the ‘Accessory bag’ from the JAY J3 Carbon backrest range.

  • Central slot enables easy fitting
  • Zipped compartment for storing essential items
  • Heavy weaved nylon for greater durability
